The variety belongs to the breeding developments of Vesele, Western Slovakia. The tree is characterized by late flowering and a late end to the dormancy period, which allows the flowers to avoid damage during spring frosts.
The variety is susceptible to Plum pox virus (PPV). In scientific research, Vegama is often used as a reference susceptible indicator variety for artificial inoculation when testing the resistance of new hybrids.
The breeding objectives for this variety were fruit quality indicators, including their size, flesh firmness, as well as the intensity of the skin and flesh coloration.
