The Mastrantonio variety, also known as Donnantonio, is a traditional ecotype of Prunus avium adapted to the volcanic soils of the Catania province. Orchards of this variety are located at altitudes of up to 1600 meters above sea level.
The fruits are of medium or medium-large size, with shiny dark red skin and juicy, crunchy flesh with low acidity. The harvest is collected up until the end of July.
The variety is used for fresh consumption and processing into jams and preserves. Producers note the need for control of the pest Drosophila suzukii.
1 jurisdiction
Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
