The variety belongs to the group of local ancient varieties of the Piedmont region. In terms of their characteristics, the fruits belong to the "duroni" type, which signifies the presence of firm and crunchy flesh, unlike the soft-fleshed varieties of the "tenerine" group.

The origin of the variety is linked to centuries-old folk selection in the vicinity of Antignano d'Asti. The plant is considered part of the genetic and cultural heritage of the region, however, detailed agronomic and morphological traits of the variety are not recorded in available sources.
