Variety description

10 August 2026

The name Graffione has historically been used in Italian regions, particularly in Piedmont, to denote duroni-type sweet cherries. This group includes autochthonous local varieties, such as Graffione bianco with light yellow skin and Graffione nero Col di Mosso.

The fruits are characterized by high sweetness, pronounced aroma, and a firm, resilient texture of the flesh. Harvesting of these varieties usually occurs in the period from mid-May to early July. The primary purpose of the fruits is for fresh consumption.

Varieties of this group are adapted to the specific soil and climatic conditions of Italy; however, because the name is a collective term for a number of local genotypes, systematic data on tree characteristics and their immunity are absent.
