The term «mora» in Italian indicates the dark color of the fruits. Varieties in this group have local origins and are adapted to the specific microclimatic conditions of Italian regions. These include Mora di Vignola from the province of Modena, Mora di Cazzano from the vicinity of Verona, and Mora di Castegnero from the Berici region.
Mora-type fruits are characterized by tender, juicy flesh, high sugar content, and thin, shiny skin. The trees are generally medium-to-tall. The ripening period for most varieties falls between the end of May and June. Local varieties possess specific resistance to local conditions, although they may be susceptible to Monilinia.
These varieties hold predominantly historical and cultural significance. In literature, they are sometimes associated with other dark varieties of the Durone Nero type. The group is not the result of modern breeding in the classical sense, but rather represents autochthonous forms shaped by folk selection.
