The variety is autochthonous to the Val d'Alpone valley in Italy. It is used for fresh consumption and for processing, for example, into jam.

The variety belongs to the mid-season maturity group; harvesting falls on the second ten-day period of June. The plant is self-sterile and requires cross-pollination for fruit set.
