Nicastrese is an ancient local landrace common in private plots in Italy. The variety has not been specifically bred for commercial cultivation, therefore its detailed agronomic characteristics, such as tree height or maturity group, are absent from public sources.

The fruits of this variety have increased sensitivity to rot. Due to this feature, they are not suitable for long-term storage and transportation, and the ecotype itself is of value primarily for the conservation of biological diversity.
