The object NERO II C1 is a clone derived from the Durone Nero II variety during breeding work. The main goal of creating this mutant was to obtain compact spur-type trees with shortened internodes, which was required for the development of intensive horticulture.

The original variety Durone Nero II is a late-ripening, vigorous tree with medium-sized dark red fruits and firm flesh, suitable for the fresh market and processing. Research into the NERO II C1 clone revealed a problem of genetic instability, because of which it appears more often in scientific literature as a study object rather than as a commercial horticultural variety.
