MIRABOLANO is a woody species widely used as a rootstock in commercial and amateur horticulture. There are both wild-growing forms and selected clones, such as Mirabolano 29C, which is valued for its adaptability to various soils, compatibility with scions, and resistance to soil-borne pathogens.
Trees of this species can reach a height of 6–8 meters. They are distinguished by high hardiness and lack of demanding requirements for growing conditions. The fruits of the cherry plum are edible, ranging in color from yellow to red-violet, however, they are inferior in size and flavor to modern breeding varieties.
In horticultural catalogs, forms under the name Mirabolano Rosso are often mentioned as effective pollinators for plum and cherry plum varieties due to their abundant flowering. When purchasing saplings with this name, it should be taken into account that it is primarily a rootstock or a seedling of a wild form, and not a variety for obtaining commercial fruit.
