The Armascia Azzurra variety is a historically established local form identified in the vicinity of the city of Amelia. In its morphological characteristics, the variety is similar to the Armascia Gialla plum, but differs from it in skin color and a slightly larger fruit size.
The fruits ripen in early August, which is approximately two weeks later than the Stanley variety. Citric acid is absent in the fruit composition; the main organic acids are malic and ascorbic; the content of phenolic antioxidants has also been noted.
