The Iroquois plum variety, introduced in 1966 by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, was obtained by crossing Prugna di Italy and Hall varieties. This variety was used as a parent form in the development of other plum varieties, such as Castleton.
In early American pomological manuals, the name Iroquois also refers to a variety belonging to the native American species Prunus americana or Prunus hortulana, discovered by Charles Luedloff in the state of Minnesota.
