The Monstruoso variety (synonyms: Carraxta, Grosse, Macrocarpa, Alella) is a late landrace with mid-season flowering. Crop formation occurs on spurs and short shoots; the variety is self-incompatible with the S3S5 genotype.

The fruits have a very hard shell, accounting for about 15% of the total weight. The kernels are characterized by a large size, averaging about 2.2 grams, an oblong shape, a light color, and a wrinkled surface. The formation of double kernels is extremely rare or absent.
