The BARBURIÑAS variety is a traditional local variety that was not developed through breeding, but is maintained in the germplasm banks of the Center for Agricultural Research of Mabegondo (CIAM). The variety is included in programs for the conservation of genetic diversity and bioresources of the region.

In scientific publications, the variety name is mentioned in the context of conducting distinctness, uniformity, and stability tests in accordance with UPOV guidelines. Detailed morphological and agronomic characteristics of the variety, such as tree description or disease resistance, are not available in open sources.
