Conference Light is a mutant clone of the English pear variety Conference. The variety was bred at the University of Bologna using irradiation methods to alter the biological characteristics of the parent plant.

During agronomic trials, particularly in the UK, the clone showed no advantages over the standard EMLA Conference variety. Early studies did not confirm the claimed reduction in growth vigor or increase in productivity, which resulted in the variety not achieving widespread commercial adoption.
