The name Deutsche Brotbirne is a synonym for the old pear variety Champagner Bratbirne. In pomological publications, the variety is found under a multitude of names, including Echte Bratbirne and Glanzlaubige Bratbirne.

The variety is classified as a Bratbirne, which defines its use for frying, baking, or cider making, as opposed to dessert varieties.
