The Doina variety was obtained as a result of breeding work in Romania before 1980. It belongs to the category of local varieties used in commercial orcharding.

The variety has high susceptibility to fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) and is prone to infestation by pear psylla (Psylla sp.). The fruits of the variety are being studied for their suitability for long-term storage in a controlled atmosphere.
