Rootstock K 11 was selected and developed by specialists at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture from quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) seedlings. It is used for grafting European pear (Pyrus communis L.) and is recognized as a national genetic resource in Lithuania.

The plant possesses high resistance to winter frosts. Scientific studies have also examined methods for improving the rooting ability of the rootstock, including the use of biotechnological propagation methods.
