The variety has been known since the beginning of the 19th century and appears in various registers under the names "Emperor Alexander", "Kaiser" or "Kaiser Alexander". The origin of the variety is presumably French.

The fruits belong to the autumn or winter ripening period. They must be harvested at the stage of picking maturity for further ripening during storage.
