The variety Lübecker Sommerbergamotte is an old representative of the cultivated pear. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and a rounded crown shape, which is atypical for this species. Harvesting takes place in the period from August to early September.

The small-sized fruits have a shape characteristic of bergamot varieties. The fruit surface is greenish-yellow, almost completely covered with fine gray-brown russeting. The flesh is distinguished by a delicate, melting, and spicy taste; the calyx is open, with star-shaped sepals.

Historically, the variety is used as a culinary pear, in particular, for preparing the traditional dish "Pears, beans, and bacon." At present, the plant is being preserved as part of programs to support old cultivated varieties in Northern Germany.
