The variety is a natural bud mutation of the Doyenné du Comice variety. In official publications, it is more often found under the name Rode Doyenne van Doorn.
Morphologically, the variety differs from the parent variety by the presence of a red blush on the fruits. The produce is intended for sale on the fresh fruit market, with the consumption season in the Northern Hemisphere lasting from November to March, and year-round availability is ensured by cultivation in the Southern Hemisphere.
The variety is a club variety; its cultivation and sale are regulated by license agreements. Fruits that do not meet the established quality standards are sold under other names.
