Variety description

10 August 2026

The Choju variety (also known as Ichiban Nashi) is a diploid variety developed in Japan. Agronomic studies note a low density of lenticels on the plant's one-year-old shoots.

The fruits are of the russet skin type. The variety is used in horticulture to obtain yields in early terms and is also applied in breeding programs to study the genetic characteristics of fruit quality and texture.

In field trials, the variety showed resistance to scab, however, it was recorded as highly susceptible to fire blight caused by Erwinia amylovora.
