The Microhirs3 variety was obtained by crossing Rhododendron hirsutum and Rhododendron micranthum. It is a dwarf shrub 50 to 100 cm in height with a dense crown shape. The plant is evergreen, possessing dark green, glossy, elliptical leaves 3–4 cm in length. The pink flowers are gathered in inflorescences approximately 5 cm in diameter; abundant flowering occurs in June.
The plant is distinguished by high tolerance to soil pH levels and frost resistance down to -26°C (zones 4–5). The variety is not susceptible to boxwood diseases and pests and tolerates pruning well. Thanks to dense tillering, it is suitable for creating hedges, borders, container gardening, as well as for solitary and group plantings.
In a number of catalogs, the variety may appear under the trade name Bloombux or as Nugget.
