The variety Māra (also known as Māra Eglīte) is characterized as high-yielding and large-fruited. It belongs to the late-ripening currant group.
The plant is susceptible to the blackcurrant gall mite (Cecidophyopsis), yet maintains high productivity even when infested by this pest.
The variety is used in scientific research on blackcurrant viral diseases, in particular for studying Blackcurrant-associated rhabdovirus.
