Variety description

10 August 2026

Boysenbær is the result of crossing Rubus idaeus, Rubus fruticosus, loganberry and Rubus ursinus. The plant forms trailing shrubs with flexible shoots 2 to 5 meters long, requiring support. There are both thorny and thornless forms of the crop.

The fruits have an oval shape and an average weight of about 8.5 grams. During the ripening process, which occurs in July–August, their color changes from dark cherry to dark purple or black. The berries are characterized by a soft texture, thin skin and a distinct aroma, combining notes of raspberry and blackberry.

The variety has limited winter hardiness and requires covering in cold climates, withstanding down to -26°C. Due to the delicate skin, the berries do not tolerate transportation well. The crop requires planting in sunny areas protected from wind, and regular pruning of shoots.
