The Wilhelm variety is an energy willow used in industrial biomass production as a renewable energy source. The plant is characterized by a straight and strong stem shape, which is an advantage for intensive cultivation.
Physiological studies of the variety show high intensity of isoprene emission. The variety was also studied in the context of phytoremediation, demonstrating stability when grown on soils contaminated with heavy metals, without visible morphological signs of stress.
