The variety has dark, highly shiny leaves with downward-curved leaf blades. The root vegetables reach a length of 20–30 cm and have a short conical or cylindrical shape with a blunt or slightly pointed tip. The surface of the root vegetable is dark brown or nearly black; the flesh is tender and creamy-white.
The plant has high frost resistance, which allows it to be left in the soil until spring. Cultivation requires deep humic soils with sufficient moisture. Excess nitrogen fertilizer negatively affects the quality of the root vegetables, making them loose or bitter.
The root vegetables are consumed raw or boiled. Due to the high inulin content, the variety is considered a dietary crop suitable for diabetic nutrition.
