The Hibernia variety is not registered as a modern agronomic variety with approved characteristics for yield or disease resistance. The name Hibernia appears in historical literature as a folk synonym for the Land Leaguer variety.
The historical variety Land Leaguer was grown in the 19th century and is characterized by tubers with light-purple skin and yellow flesh. A feature of the tubers is the presence of a purple ring inside when cut.
