Tubers of the variety have dark red, wine-burgundy skin and red or mottled red flesh, often with a characteristic white ring under the skin. The flowers of the plant are white.
The variety belongs to mid-late or very late maturity groups. It is demanding in cultivation and shows susceptibility to diseases such as common scab. The yield of the variety is lower than that of modern commercial cultivars.
The potato has a floury, crumbly texture and a sweetish taste. It is suitable for making mashed potatoes, baking, soups, and frying, with some of the flesh color preserved after heat treatment.
