The variety Hilta was obtained by crossing parental forms Sonja and Clivia. Genetic studies note the involvement of the wild species S. spegazzinii in the origin of this variety, as well as the presence of rare allele combinations.
The plant possesses resistance to the potato cyst nematode Globodera rostochiensis, including pathotypes Ro1, 2, 3 and 5. In breeding, the variety is primarily used as an initial form for developing new hybrids.
