The modern potato variety "Topas" is classified as a mid-early table variety. It was included in the official descriptive lists of potato varieties of the Federal Plant Variety Office of Germany in the period from 2005 to 2011.
The historical variety with the same name, mentioned in the literature of the beginning of the XX century, was characterized as mid-early, resistant to diseases, and suitable for table and industrial purposes. It is important not to confuse these two potato varieties with each other, as well as with the apple, soybean and fungicide varieties of the same name.
