The variety is a diploid form of red clover. In scientific literature, it often appears under the name Violetta with the suffix RvP, indicating its origin from the Belgian state plant breeding station.
The plant possesses a well-known genetic base, due to which it has historically been used in breeding programs to create mapping populations and study seed productivity traits. In agronomic studies, the variety was examined in the context of resistance to powdery mildew and Sclerotinia.
Violetta is intended for inclusion in grass mixtures together with perennial grasses, such as perennial ryegrass. The variety is considered old and, under modern conditions, is mentioned more frequently in research papers than in commercial seed catalogs.
