The Cosmos variety is a modern breeding form created with the participation of soft wheat (Triticum aestivum), the genome share of which in the variety composition is about 29.7%. The plants are characterized by a lower height compared to traditional spelt varieties, which increases their resistance to lodging.
Despite its hybrid origin, the variety retains key spelt traits: specific spike morphology and tightly attached glumes. The variety demonstrates high susceptibility to Fusarium head blight and is more sensitive to environmental stress factors than old landraces.
The technological properties and gluten quality of Cosmos differ from pure, non-crossbred spelt varieties. The variety's production is used both for fodder purposes and in baking.
