The winter wheat variety GK Répce was developed at the Gabonakutató research institute. Despite the presence in the name of a word meaning "rapeseed", the variety belongs exclusively to the Triticum aestivum crop.

In scientific research, the variety was considered in the context of studying resistance to agricultural crop pathogens. The presence of leaf rust resistance genes, designated as Lr1 and Lr3a, was established in this variety.
