Haunsberger Weizen is a traditional local landrace grown in the Haunsberg mountain area. The plants belong to winter forms, reach a height of 1.5 meters, have loose ears, and belong to the group of Alpine awned wheats.
The variety is distinguished by its lodging resistance and reliability when grown without the use of growth regulators, pesticides, and mineral fertilizers. The grain is smaller than that of modern varieties and contains more bran and a high level of protein.
The wheat is used primarily in baking, giving products a distinct taste, aroma, and dense crust. In addition, the variety is valued for its high straw yield.
