The variety is mid-season, with maturity occurring 125–130 days after sowing. The plant is tall, reaching a height of about 120 cm. The spike is of medium length (about 7 cm), with a compact, oblong or fusiform shape. The glumes are white with yellowish shades, often covered with lead-black stripes, and the awns stand out with gray-black shades against the light spike.

The grain has an amber or reddish color, an oval-elliptical shape, and a translucent vitreous texture. The variety is demanding of soils: it prefers deep, well-moistened, and nutrient-rich soils, including clay ones. It is traditionally used for making bread and homemade pasta.
