The variety belongs to tall wheat forms and is a folk selection adapted to hot and dry conditions. Due to its origin, the variety is characterized by high adaptation to local ecological niches, although its yield level is inferior to modern intensive varieties.

Bidi' is traditionally used for the production of pasta, couscous, and bulgur. In scientific literature, mention of its Bidi 17 line is common, and the general variety name may refer to various local selections maintained in national genebanks.
