The variety is classified as having low gluten quality. Research interest in this variety is focused on the analysis of the composition of high-molecular and low-molecular weight glutenin subunits, which determine the technological properties of the grain.

In scientific literature, the variety is used in comparative studies along with other Portuguese varieties to study the genetic basis of wheat technological qualities.
