Scavuzza is a landrace variety adapted to conditions in Sicily. It is a tall plant, about 130 cm in height, with a maturity period of about 125 days from sowing.
The variety possesses genetic resistance to a number of stem rust races, including TTKTT and TKKTF. Studies of grain composition note an increased content of phenolic compounds compared to a number of other varieties.
Currently, the variety has been practically displaced from commercial production by modern intensive forms and is preserved as a genetic resource for organic farming and breeding purposes.
