The variety was bred in Italy during programs for the improvement of local emmer populations. Its creation is based on crossing with durum wheat, which allowed for the combination of the properties of an ancient crop with the characteristics of modern wheat species.

The product is aimed at the health food markets and is included in research programs for the study of morphological, physiological, and agronomic indicators of the European emmer gene pool.
