Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety was obtained as a result of crossing a local emmer population from the Molise region and the commercial durum wheat variety Simeto. The plant is characterized by an early maturity cycle and an average stem height of 95 cm with a range of 85–105 cm.

The variety possesses resistance to lodging and major fungal diseases. Compared to local emmer populations, Padre Pio demonstrates a higher thousand kernel weight, increased grain yield after dehulling, and improved rheological properties of the dough suitable for pasta production.
