The variety has ancient origins, presumably linked to the Roman era and wild grapes. The name Fer indicates the exceptional hardness of the wood, which complicates pruning, while Servadou refers to its good storage capacity.
Morphologically, the variety is characterized by small five-lobed leaves with pubescence on the underside and compact medium-sized bunches. The berries are round, small, and have thick skin. The shoot tips have cottony whitish-pink pubescence.
The variety is resistant to grey mold and powdery mildew, but is susceptible to damage by leafhoppers. It requires short pruning due to irregular fruit bearing. The wines have a deep ruby color, pronounced acidity, and aging potential.
