The leaf of the plant is round, dark green, with five or seven lobes and slight pubescence on the underside. The petiolar sinus is open, lyre-shaped. The flower is hermaphroditic. The berries are whitish-green and covered with a thick waxy bloom.

The variety has vigorous growth, but is characterized by medium or low yields and high susceptibility to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew, downy mildew, and grey mold. Shoots are fragile and prone to wind damage.

Wines from this variety possess high acidity, aging potential, and an aromatic profile with notes of anise, citrus, herbs, and yellow fruits. The variety has many historical synonyms, including Cape Riesling and Clare Riesling.
