The variety is autochthonous to the Piedmont region, with the first documentary mentions dating back to 1593. The vine is characterized by weak to medium vigor and a semi-drooping growth habit. The variety is quite sensitive to fungal diseases, in particular downy mildew, and requires cultivation in dry and well-ventilated areas.

Bunches are of medium size, conical, and of medium density. Berries are medium, round, with thick skin and juicy pulp. Wines from this variety possess an intense color, soft tannins, a fruit profile with notes of cherry and blueberry, as well as moderate or low acidity.
