The variety is a natural mutation of the Garnacha Tinta variety. The variety received its name due to the presence of fine, downy pubescence on the underside of the leaves, which contributes to moisture retention and reduced transpiration, ensuring adaptation to arid conditions. The berries of the variety are generally smaller than those of the parent species and have thicker skins.

The plant possesses high shoot vigor and belongs to the mid to mid-late maturity group. The variety shows high resistance to powdery mildew and better resistance to flower/fruit drop, however, it is susceptible to downy mildew, grey mold, and Eutypa dieback. The crop is well adapted to poor, stony soils.

The variety is used in winemaking for the production of red wines. Compared to Garnacha Tinta, wines from it are characterized by more pronounced freshness, elegance, increased acidity, a moderate level of alcohol, and soft tannins. The variety is used both for creating blends and for the production of single-varietal wines.
