The variety is autochthonous to Northern Bulgaria and is genetically close or identical to the Kadarka variety. This is a late-ripening crop with a growing season of about 170 days, the harvest of which falls at the end of September — beginning of October. The plant has medium to high vigor and high fertility, but requires load control, as overloading negatively affects sugar content and wine quality.

Botanically, the variety is characterized by large five-lobed leaves with rusty pubescence on the underside. The bunch has a cylindrical-conical shape, medium density and an average weight of about 160 g. The berries are medium-sized, almost round, dark blue in color, with a very thin and fragile skin.

Gamza is sensitive to low winter temperatures and gray mold (Botrytis cinerea), but is capable of recovery. Wine from this variety is distinguished by a ruby color, a delicate fruit aroma, and soft tannins. The quality of the produce strongly depends on the climatic conditions of the specific season and the thoroughness of care.
