Sheegene-20
ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety originated from a natural cross between Pinot noir and Gouais blanc. The vines are medium-vigorous with rounded, medium-dissected leaves. The clusters are small, dense, and cylindrical or cylindrical-conical in shape. The berries are medium, round, dark blue with a waxy bloom, and the pulp is juicy and tender.
The period from bud burst to technical maturity is about 159 days with a sum of active temperatures of 3020°C. The yield is 80–130 c/ha. The variety is relatively resistant to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and frosts down to -22°C, but has low resistance to grey mold and phylloxera.
It is used for making dry red and sparkling wines, as well as grape juice. The finished wines are characterized by high acidity, soft tannins, and pronounced fruity aromas of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, and violet.
