The variety has dark berries and is known by the synonyms Gymza or Kadarka. Clusters are medium or large, cylindrical-conical in shape, often winged, and of medium density. Berries are medium-sized, nearly spherical, dark blue in color, covered with abundant waxy bloom, and have thin, fragile skin.

Vines have medium to strong vigor and are characterized by high yield and fruitfulness. The variety tolerates drought and heat well, however, it is sensitive to winter frosts and susceptible to Botrytis cinerea. If excessively overloaded with yield, product quality in terms of sugar content and extractability decreases.

Gamza belongs to wine varieties and is used for the production of red table wines. Under optimal conditions, wines are characterized by a ruby color and aromas of cherry, raspberry, black pepper, and spices.
