The variety was identified during genetic studies of grapes in the Canary Islands using SSR markers. In the process of long-term evolution under specific abiotic conditions, the vines acquired genetic differences from the original populations.
The plant is considered as a resource for the wine sector and potential genetic material for breeding varieties resistant to climate change. Work is underway to recognize the variety for use in winemaking within the framework of regional designations of origin.
