The variety is vigorous, with long internodes and long peduncles of the clusters, which gave it its name, meaning "far from the eyes". Leaves are five-, seven-, or nine-lobed. Clusters are large or medium, conical, and dense. Berries are medium-sized, ellipsoidal, and white in color.
Ripening period is early-mid or medium. The variety is productive but sensitive to spring frosts and susceptible to fungal diseases, including Botrytis cinerea. With high yields, it is prone to potassium deficiency.
Wines from this grape are full-bodied, with relatively low acidity. The thin skin of the berries facilitates the development of "noble rot", which allows for the creation of late-harvest dessert wines. The variety is often used in blends to enhance the structure and aromatics of the wine.
