The variety has Spanish roots and originates from the Penedès region. According to research, it is the result of a natural cross between the Hebén variety and an unknown father variety. It is a wine grape variety, one of the three main components in the production of Cava sparkling wines.

The variety is classified as late-ripening and develops most effectively in high-altitude conditions, where the cool climate contributes to the accumulation of acidity. The berries have thin skin and soft flesh. Yield is high; however, the variety is sensitive to diseases, in particular to powdery mildew.

Wines from this variety are characterized by elegance and a delicate aroma with notes of citrus, green apple, and floral tones. The alcohol content in the resulting wines is usually moderate.
